Chapter X. Passage of Intersections

86.1. When approaching an intersection, the driver must exercise particular attention, based on the local conditions. In particular, the driver must drive the vehicle at a speed that enables them to stop and give way to vehicles having priority.

87. When exiting an intersection while performing a right or left turn, the driver must not create an obstruction for pedestrians crossing the carriageway, and must give way to cyclists moving along a bicycle path.

88. A driver must not enter an intersection, a part of an intersection marked by road marking 1.26, or an intersection of carriageways or parts of an intersection if congestion ahead in the direction of travel would force the driver to stop and obstruct cross traffic, except when making a right or left turn as permitted by these Rules.

Signalized intersections

89. An intersection where the order of movement is determined by the signals of the traffic controller or of the traffic light is considered to be signalized.

90. When performing a left turn or a U-turn on the green signal of the traffic light, the driver of a non-rail vehicle must give way to the vehicles moving from the oncoming direction straight ahead and to the right. Drivers of trams must also be guided by the same rule with respect to each other.

91. A driver moving in the direction of the arrow of an additional section activated simultaneously with the yellow or red signal of the traffic light must give way to the vehicles moving from other directions.

92. If the signals of the traffic controller or of the traffic light permit the simultaneous movement of a tram and of non-rail vehicles, then, regardless of the direction of movement, the driver of the tram has priority of movement. However, when moving in the direction of the arrow of an additional section activated simultaneously with the yellow or red signal of the traffic light, the driver of the tram must give way to the vehicles approaching from other directions.

93. On a permitting signal of the traffic light, a driver who has entered the intersection may clear it in the intended direction, provided this does not impede road users moving in a direction for which traffic is open, regardless of the signal displayed at the exit; however, if marking 1.12 "Stop line" (or signs 6.16 "Stop line") is present before the traffic lights placed in the direction of movement of the vehicle inside the intersection, he must be guided by the signals of each traffic light.

94. The driver must give way to vehicles which have not yet completed the crossing of the carriageway, and must not obstruct pedestrians in completing the passage of the intersection, even if the permitting signal of the traffic light has already been activated.

Unsignalized intersections

95. An intersection where the traffic light or the traffic controller is absent, where the traffic light is not operating, or where the flashing yellow signal of the traffic light is activated, is considered to be unsignalized.

96. A driver approaching an intersection of roads of unequal priority on a secondary road must give way to vehicles travelling on the main road, regardless of their intended direction. At such an intersection, a tram has priority, regardless of its direction of travel, over trackless vehicles travelling in the same or opposite direction on a road of equal priority.

97. If the main road changes its direction at an intersection, then drivers moving along it shall, in their actions with respect to one another, be guided by the rules of passage of an intersection of equal-priority roads. The drivers of vehicles moving along the secondary roads must also be guided by the same rules with respect to one another.

98. At an intersection of roads of equal priority, except in the circumstances specified in point 98.1 of the Rules, the driver of a trackless vehicle must give way to the drivers of vehicles approaching from the right. Drivers of trams must also be guided by the same rule with respect to each other. At such an intersection, a tram has priority over trackless vehicles regardless of its direction of travel.

98.1. When entering a roundabout marked with sign 4.3 "Roundabout", a driver must give way to vehicles already travelling on the roundabout.

99. When performing a left turn or a U-turn, the driver of a non-rail vehicle must give way to the drivers of vehicles moving from the oncoming direction straight ahead or to the right along a road of equal priority.

100. At unsignalized intersections, the driver of a tram, regardless of the direction of movement, has priority of movement over the drivers of non-rail vehicles moving along a road of equal priority in the same or oncoming direction.

101. When the driver cannot determine whether the road is paved (during the dark time of day, mud, snow, etc.), and priority signs are absent, then he must consider that he is on a secondary road.
