Chapter VIII. Overtaking
73. Before overtaking, the driver must ensure that:
the oncoming traffic lane that the driver intends to enter is clear for a sufficient distance, and the manoeuvre will not obstruct oncoming vehicles;
no vehicle travelling behind in the same lane has started overtaking, and the vehicle ahead has not signalled an intention to overtake, turn left or make a U-turn;
when completing the manoeuvre, the driver can, if necessary, return to the previously occupied lane without obstructing the vehicle or vehicles being overtaken.
74. A trackless vehicle may be overtaken only on the left. However, if the driver of the vehicle ahead has signalled a left turn and begun the manoeuvre, that vehicle must be overtaken on the right.
75. The driver of a vehicle being overtaken must not impede the overtaking manoeuvre by increasing speed or by any other action.
76. If it is difficult to overtake a slow-moving or oversized vehicle outside a built-up area, its driver—and, where applicable, the driver of an escort vehicle—must keep as far to the right as possible and, if necessary, stop to allow following vehicles to pass.
77. Overtaking is prohibited:
at intersections;
at pedestrian crossings;
at railway crossings and within 100 m before them;
if the driver of the vehicle being overtaken is overtaking another vehicle or bypassing an obstruction;
in tunnels, on overpasses, bridges and flyovers and beneath them, and at road narrowings;
of a vehicle displaying a flashing blue beacon and using a special audible warning signal;
if the vehicle being overtaken is displaying flashing blue and red beacons and using a special audible warning signal, or is being escorted by such vehicles.
at the crest of a hill and on road sections with limited visibility when overtaking requires entering the oncoming traffic lane.
