Chapter III. Use of Hazard Warning Lights and the “Emergency Stop” Warning Sign
22. The hazard warning lights must be activated:
in the event of a road traffic accident;
in the event of a forced stop in places where stopping is prohibited;
when the driver is dazzled by headlights;
during towing (on the towed vehicle).
The driver must also activate the hazard warning lights whenever it is necessary to warn other road users of a danger.
23. After activating the hazard warning lights—or if they are absent or malfunctioning—the “Emergency Stop” warning sign (or a flashing red lamp) must be placed immediately:
in the event of a road traffic accident;
in the event of a forced stop in places where stopping is prohibited, as well as in places where, due to visibility conditions, the vehicle cannot be noticed in time by other drivers. After meeting this requirement, the driver must comply with point 83 of the Rules.
To ensure that other drivers are warned in good time, the “Emergency Stop” warning sign (or flashing red lamp) must be placed at least 15 m from the vehicle in built-up areas and at least 30 m from the vehicle outside built-up areas.
24. If the hazard warning lights are absent or malfunctioning, the “Emergency Stop” warning sign must be placed on the rear of the towed vehicle.
25. Hazard warning lights must not be used to obtain priority or to stop where stopping is prohibited, except in the event of a forced stop.
